Fall Bird Walk at Lakewood Forest Preserve
Join Lake County Audubon Society for a late fall bird walk through the rolling landscape of Lakewood Forest Preserve!
November is a great time to explore Lakewood's woodlands, open habitats, and trails as we look for lingering migrants, winter arrivals, waterfowl and resident birds. With much of the foliage gone, we'll have better opportunities to spot birds moving through the trees and along the woodland edges.
Trip leaders Brad Stein and Matt Tobin will guide us along approximately four miles of mostly crushed-gravel trails through some of Lakewood's hillier terrain. We'll enjoy the changing season, see what birds are around, and explore one of Lake County's beautiful forest preserves.

📍 Location: Lakewood Forest Preserve, Winter Sports Area Parking Lot, off Fairfield Road across from Ivanhoe Road, Wauconda, IL

🥾 Activity Level: Moderately Challenging, approximately 4 miles on mostly crushed-gravel trails. The terrain is fairly hilly, with the equivalent of walking up and down a sledding hill several times.
Registration is required and space is limited.

Important Information
Please follow the Google Maps directions to the Winter Sports Area Parking Lot, as Lakewood Forest Preserve has multiple access points.
Bring binoculars if you have them. We'll have a few loaner pairs available. Dress for November weather, wear comfortable walking shoes suitable for hilly gravel trails, and bring extra layers as needed.
An outhouse is available near the parking lot.
The walk may run slightly beyond the scheduled end time, and participants are welcome to leave early if needed.
If you register but are unable to attend, please text one of the trip leaders so your spot can be offered to someone else. Registration will close once capacity is reached.
In the event of weather-related cancellation, registered participants will be notified by email.
