Come out on June 21 for a morning walk at Lakewood Forest Preserve led by Stephen Hurst, an expert birder and photographer. Lakewood is the largest preserve within the county and boasts an extensive trail system winding through many different habitats that attract a wide variety of breeding birds including Eastern Kingbirds, Field Sparrows, Eastern Meadowlarks, and Yellow Warblers, along with some less common species like Henslow's Sparrow. Our trip route will explore the Fort Hill Trail area in the northeast section of the preserve. If you would like to find out more about Lakewood Forest Preserve, please visit: https://www.lcfpd.org/lakewood/
Bring binoculars (if available). We will have a few loaner pairs if you need to borrow one for the walk.
Please dress accordingly for the weather conditions and wear appropriate footwear for walking around 4 miles on mostly crushed-gravel trails. Sunscreen, insect repellent, drinking water, and a hat are all good items to bring along.
The walk duration may extend a bit beyond the scheduled slot, but feel free to leave at anytime.
In case of inclement weather or changes in location/start time, the trip leader will notify all participants via email.
