Waukegan Harbor- Bird Walk

  • Waukegan Harbor & Marina (map)

Franklin’s Gull. Photo: Doug Reitz

Activity Level:  Easy, Walk 1 mile

Waukegan Harbor draws a surprising number of ducks and other waterfowl throughout the winter, due to its protective breakwaters and sheltering docks.  Interesting sparrows often lurk in the trees and shrubs bordering the harbor parking lots. An odd wandering gull may show up at any time throughout the winter as well. The harbor is also a popular place to find snowy owls, if any have moved this far south.  Dress for the weather and be prepared (i.e., hope!) for surprises!

Please register as location may change based upon waterfowl migration progress and/or event may be cancelled for inclement weather. Directions and parking instructions are included in the blue registration link below.
