Evening Bird Walk: Mellody Farm Preserve

🌅 Evening Bird Walk & Sunset Social at Mellody Farm Nature Preserve

There's something special about being outdoors as the day begins to wind down. The light softens, birds become active again, and nature settles into a quieter rhythm.

Join the Lake County Audubon Society on Wednesday, July 29, for a leisurely evening bird walk through Mellody Farm Nature Preserve in Lake Forest. We'll explore the preserve together, looking and listening for resident birds and early fall migrants while enjoying one of the most beautiful times of day to be outside.

Birding isn't always about finding the rarest bird. Sometimes it's about slowing down, sharing an evening outdoors, and appreciating the remarkable natural heritage that's right here in Lake County.

Late July is one of my favorite times to be in the field. Young birds are finding their independence, goldfinches are beginning to nest as native plants come into bloom, and many species are quietly preparing for the first hints of fall migration.

After our walk, we'll gather for light refreshments as we watch the sunset together. Feel free to bring a lawn chair or blanket so you can relax, enjoy good conversation, and take in the colors of a summer sunset.

Whether you're an experienced birder or simply looking for a peaceful evening outdoors, everyone is welcome.
