Program Meeting: Winter Birding

  • Byron Colby Barn 1561 Jones Point Road Grayslake, Illinois 60030 (map)

BIRDING IN WINTER

Winter can be a drab time for many, but it can also bring birding treasures if you know where to look. Many northern birds come south and spend the winter in our area, including a variety of hawks, owls, sparrows, finches, and, sometimes, rarities! Join us to learn which birds are around, where to find them, and other tips to make the most out of wintertime.

Lisa Maier has been an active member in the Illinois birding and local conservation community for over a decade, working with various organizations on projects and events to bring awareness, educate, and share her passion for birds and the habitats they reside in. Lisa is the Membership Development Specialist for The Land Conservancy of McHenry County. She is also President of McHenry County Audubon Society and serves on the Board of Directors of Illinois Audubon Society. She is a local guide for Red Hill Birding and leads bird and nature walks for various organizations. Lisa mentors homeowners in starting their own native garden through the Wildflower Preservation and Propagation Committee’s “Natural Garden in your Yard Program”. She also participates in a variety of wildlife monitoring activities and is an Official Counter for the Fort Sheridan Hawkwatch.
