Birds & Butterflies Walk at Grant Woods Forest Preserve-South

Date: Sunday, August 10

Time: 9:30 AM – Noon

Trip Leaders: Carla Schmakel  (224) 426-9314   &   Matt Tobin  (847) 951-1483

Join Lake County Audubon Society for a mid-morning walk exploring the south section of Grant Woods Forest Preserve! The trip will be led by Carla Schmakel and Matt Tobin, two experienced Lake County birders and veteran butterfly monitors involved with the Illinois Butterfly Monitoring Network (IBMN). Grant Woods Forest Preserve is one of the sites that Carla regularly monitors for IBMN during the butterfly season.

We will be looking and listening for birds throughout the walk, but the group will proceed at a more gradual pace around the 1.8-mile main loop than our usual bird walks. We will be stopping often to patiently scan for butterflies flitting about the different habitats. Please note the later start time for this walk, which is planned to coincide with the start of the peak range for daily butterfly activity.

Specific details about the walk and meeting location are included via the registration link below:
